Womens Active Wear during the 80’s
During the 80’s people started to express their creativity and individuality through the way they dressed. They looked for ways to express their creativity and individuality even while working out. Fitness wear was big, higher and over the top. It was almost more of fashion statement than fitness necessity. Active wear in the 80’s was more conservative but yet very fashionable. It was dominated by bodysuits, spandex leggings, scrunched socks, and Headbands. They would layer their leggings with legwarmers and high –legged leotards over bike shorts. Unlike like today their attire was filled with neon colors, shiny bodysuits and leotards. They also accessorized with toning belts, suspenders, and sweatbands. It was fashionable, fun, and exciting.
Like the 80’s era we are still wearing spandex, oversize sweatshirts and bike shorts. Though there is a big difference between today’s active wear and the 80’s active wear. Obviously we don’t layer our gym clothes like they used too, we don’t wear legwarmers and we rarely accessorize while working out.
Today active wear is one of the aspects of fashion that is overlooked most of the times. Either you’re working out in an oversize t-shirt, camis or sports bra and yoga pants. Now in days most of our gym clothes are random picked from t-shirts, hoodies, sweat pants/ athlete pants, leggings, and shorts. Most people aren’t worried about how they look when they work out. Also the active wear that are sold in stores today are mostly in black, white and grey. It’s more casual, has less patterns and less usage of color. Including that active wear has also developed since the 80’s. We are now buying smooth dry and deodorizing garments to keep us cool and fresh in the heat while we work out. The fabrics that are being used to make active wear are very high tech and I believe that this is what’s making active wear grow in the industry.

Fashion on the Street
Last Semester in my photography class we had a project where we had to
photograph and create a blurb book on any topic of our choice. Somehow I
decided to do street style and I wanted to photograph a variety of
individuals outfits and style. The three photographs below are included in my book:
After turning the book in my professor told me that my photographs reminded him of the photographer Amy Arbus. |

Celeb Style
Va$htie in Supreme x Kate Moss Who doesn't love Va$htie's street style ? |
M.I.A. M.I.A. is another reminder to take fashion risks. With her bright, prints and unique sense of style she always looks good and she's just simply bad ass. |
Victoria Beckham |
I have to admit that I have always loved the way Victoria Beckham dressed. Every time I see a photograph that has been captured of her on the go .... I always seem to be drawn into her outfits especially her heels and shades.

Free the Mind
It’s a beautiful Saturday morning. It’s about 49 degrees today with baby blue clear skies and a bright beaming sun. There is a cool wind that blows my hair onto my face, also making me get chills on my left knee due to the rip in my jeans. As I sit down on the wooden bench underneath the sun I start to get warmer. The sun’s warmth on my skin makes miss warm summer days. I am the only one sitting here observing the environment. Watching people walk along the sidewalks going about their business. Some walked through the park but didn’t stop to take a moment to enjoy this beautiful day. There is not a single kid playing or enjoying the playground. It is I only here besides the bare trees, dried plants and bushes, and chirping birds. This is where my observance and over thinking starts to overflow. I inhale and exhale to enjoy the cool fresh air, tasting so fresh, cold and natural. I begin to feel sense of relaxation and relief. As I look up towards the tall buildings surrounding this small area I notice the reflection of the sun’s ray and glares on the windows. I was suddenly startled by a herd of pigeons that flew above me. They are now pecking the cemented ground in search of food. Once again I was startled, but this time it was by the loud cars driving up and down the street. I begin to observe the birds and how free they are. I begin to release inner thoughts and again I started to feel that sense of relaxation, cool air blowing my hair onto my face, the chills on my knee, then the sun’s warmth. For there was not a single kid to play and enjoy the playground, it was only I here besides the bare trees, dried plants and bushes, and chirping birds. This is where I free my mind.

Three stars Two stripes
My good friend N'Dea asked me to design her a tattoo that would incorporate the outline of the African continent and the DC flag. The tattoo would impart her roots and where she was raised. I swiftly came up with a couple ideas and whelp, she choose one and got it tatted.... *So you know it's real (Rick Ross voice)*
